Pirates Finish Road Trip With 7-0 Sweep Of NJIT

NEWARK, N.J. – In the final match of a three-match road trip, the ECU men's tennis team finished the trip with a 7-0 sweep of the New Jersey Institute of Technology on Sunday afternoon.
ECU improves to 6-1 on the season and 2-1 on the road. NJIT drops to 0-3.
Just like they had in their previous five victories, the Pirates got off to a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. Diogo Marques and Federico Masetti dropped just one game against Ammar Fekry and Aidar Aidossov, winning 6-1 on court three. The other two matches were closer, with both tied at 5-5. Simon Labbe and Agustin Tamagnone broke that 5-5 tie against Adullah Fouad and George Svensson and pulled out a 7-5 victory on court one.
The singles matches were dominated by ECU. The Pirates did not drop a single set across the six courts. Tamagnone got the second point of the day for ECU, beating Daniel Sabogal 6-3, 6-0 on court four. His doubles partner, Labbe, was not far behind him, beating Josh Smith 6-2, 6-2 on court three.
ECU clinched the match when Marques beat Fouad 6-3, 6-4 on court one. Javier Renones completed a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) victory against Tin Dizdarevic on court two.
Wisse Jonker and Federico Masetti joined Tamagnone in winning all three of their singles matches over the weekend. Jonker topped Fekry 6-1, 6-2 on court five while Masetti beat Aidossov 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) on court six to complete the sweep.
ECU will return home for a match against Hampton. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.., on Friday at the ECU Indoor Tennis Center.
