ECU Unveils 2021 Lacrosse Schedule
January 21, 2021 | Lacrosse
GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina will face a pair of teams ranked in the Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Division I Preseason Top 20 and play 10 American Athletic Conference games as part of its 2021 schedule announced fourth-year head coach Amanda Moore on Thursday.
Â
Moore welcomes back her entire starting lineup from last year's team, including top goal scorers Megan Pallozzi, Nicole Legar and Megan Tryniski. Pallozzi and Legar are among the 14 seniors on the team that were part of the program's inaugural 2018 squad as freshmen.
Â
The Pirates finished the shortened 2020 season with a 5-3 record, equaling the program's top win total from the previous season in nine fewer games.
 Â
"We're excited for the opportunity to get back out and compete." Moore said. "We feel like the depth we have in our returning players, and especially our first full senior class, will be a significant positive attribute for us while competing in an unprecedented and unpredictable COVID-era season.Â
Â
"We want to continue to build on the historic growth we saw last season before things came to an end. This season's lineup of games will be our most competitive and we're eager to adapt to the doubleheader conference format."
Â
The Pirates, who are scheduled to play 16 regular season games, open the season February 12 at home against Furman before traveling across state to face Davidson (Feb. 20) a week later. ECU will then embark on a three-game homestand facing Campbell (Feb. 24), No. 15 Duke (Feb. 28) and Jacksonville (March 6). Non-conference play concludes at UMBC on March 13.
Â
With the addition of Old Dominion as an affiliate member for women's lacrosse, The American will move to a 10-game format in which AAC teams will face each other in a two-game series in the same weekend with a one-day break between contests.
Â
The Monarchs joined the conference as an affiliate member in April 2020 to bring the number of league teams competing in women's lacrosse to six along with Cincinnati, Florida, Temple and Vanderbilt.
Â
Due to the unbalanced scheduling format, East Carolina will host two conference series and be on the road for three series.
Â
ECU will welcome Vanderbilt to Johnson Stadium on March 26 and 28 as well as Cincinnati to close out the regular season April 23 and 25.
Â
The Pirates will open conference play at Old Dominion on March 19 and 21 in addition to traveling to No. 7 Florida (April 1, 3) and Temple (April 16, 18).
Â
The 2021 American Athletic Conference Championship is scheduled for May 6-8 on the campus of the University of Florida.
