July 27, 2021 | Lacrosse
GREENVILLE, N.C. – For the third time, the East Carolina lacrosse team was named an IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad.
Â
"Incredibly proud of the team's commitment and discipline this year in a virtual learning environment," said head coach Amanda Moore. "To see our players challenge themselves in such a wide variety of course offerings is extremely encouraging as a coach." OK
Â
In order to qualify as an Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Squad, the lacrosse team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year. ECU is one of 285 schools across Division I, II, III and NAIA to earn the honor and one of 97 Division I programs. The Pirates also earned the award following the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons, making ECU a perfect three-for-three on earning the prestigious award as it was not given out in 2019-20 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Â
Along with the team award, 12 Pirates earned a spot on the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll, a program-best total. MacKell Schultes and Amy Jarvis earned the award for the second time in their careers after being honored in 2019. Cece Bartley, Brittany Borchers, Sam Caputo, Lydia Carbuccia, Jordyn Cox, Sophia LoCicero, Alex Nicoletti, Megan Pallozzi, Megan Tryniski and Elizabeth Wilson all were named to the Honor Roll for the first time in their careers.
Â
In order to be recognized on the honor roll, student-athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
