GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina softball team will compete inside Max R. Joyner Family Stadium for the third consecutive weekend beginning on Friday evening, when the Pirates face off with UMass at 8 p.m. to kick off the Purple-Gold Invitational. ECU will also compete against Norfolk State over the weekend.
Â
The Pirates are coming off a 3-2 weekend in the Pirate Invitational, defeating Monmouth twice and coming back to best Saint Joseph's but ECU had trouble against Maryland, falling to the Terrapins twice including giving up a season-high 12 runs in Sunday's contest. ECU's offense stalled for much of the tournament as the Pirates averaged only two runs per game over the weekend.
Â
UCLA grad transfer Taylor Edwards leads the Pirates at the plate, batting .370 (7th in AAC) and has hit a team-high four triples this season. Edwards has been the definition of versatility playing outfield, first base and designated player so far for the Pirates. ECU has seven players currently batting .250 or higher. Addy Bullis has been the team's top arm in the circle with a 9-1 record and a 0.83 ERA (1st in AAC, 25th in NCAA) in 11 appearances.
Â
