Pirates Defeat Towson To Open Pirate Invitational, 9-2

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina softball team started off the Pirate Invitational on a strong note as the Pirates defeated Towson 9-2 on Friday evening at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.

Emma Jackson continued her strong start to the season, going 2-for-3 at the plate for the Pirates (12-1) who rallied from a 2-0 first-inning deficit with runs in the next five innings to pull away for the win.
Â
After Towson's two-run homer, the Pirates would take advantage of a Towson error and load the bases before Logan Sutton's two RBI double evened the score and Makenzie Mason's RBI single put the Pirates in front 3-2.
Â
ECU would add a run in the third and fourth innings before blowing the game open with two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to put the game away.
Â
Jordan Hatch (6-1) tossed 10 strikeouts and only surrendered one earned run in seven innings of work for the win.
