Pirates Drop Series Opener At Tulsa, 2-1

Tulsa, Okla. – Emma Jackson hit a leadoff home run but the offense was quiet for the rest of the night as East Carolina fell 2-1 in its series opener with Tulsa on Friday at Collins Family Softball Complex.
Kanisha Anderson and Annie Kate Dalton each added a hit for the Pirates (29-13, 6-10 AAC) who have dropped their last three road conference games. ECU struggled to build on the momentum of Jackson's early homer, going just 2-of-24 at the plate and leaving seven runners on base after taking the 1-0 lead.
Tulsa quickly regained control of the game, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first and holding the Pirates without a hit for the next five innings.Â
Anderson would hit a single in the top of the seventh, but Kylee Nash would retire Jackson and Morgan Johnson to earn the save and prevent a Pirate comeback.
Taylor Apple (11-4) allowed six hits in six innings in the circle in the loss while Maura Moore (9-5) tossed 10 strikeouts for the win.
