Three Pirates Earn American Athletic Conference Lacrosse Honors
May 01, 2024 | Lacrosse
IRVING, Texas – East Carolina lacrosse's Frances Kimel, Ellie Bromley and Alexandra Giacolone have been tabbed American Athletic Conference All-Conference, the league announced Wednesday. Kimel earned First-Team recognition while Bromley and Giacolone both earned Second-Team nods.
Â
For Kimel, this marks four years in a row earning All-Conference honors, only missing out during her COVID-shortened freshman year in 2020, and her second-consecutive year being named to the AAC First Team. The Durham native, in her third season as a Team Captain, had a tremendous season again in 2024 with 61 points on 31 goals and 30 assists on the attack. 30 assists just missed her own program record for a single season while 31 placed fifth all time.
Â
On the year, Kimel also extended her own program career records in points and assists while breaking the record for career goals as she cemented herself as the most prolific attack player in East Carolina history.
Â
Of note, this is the first year in league history in which a player has earned their fourth All-Conference selection. Kimel is in that first group along with Danielle Pavinelli of Florida and Belle Mastropietro of Temple.
Bromley, a midfielder from Cary, earned her third All-Conference honor after posting 23 points on 19 goals and four assists, 28 draw controls, 27 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers as the team's do-it-all player. The graduate workhorse did it all and then some for the Pirates this season and along the way became the fifth player in program history to eclipse 100 career points.
Â
Giacolone's recognition is also the third of her career. Though her statistics were not as gaudy a season ago, she still posted impressive numbers with 34 ground balls and a team-high 21 caused turnovers while also dishing her second career assist against Clemson. With her 21 caused turnovers in 2024, the Manorville, N.Y. native finishes her career with four of the top five seasons in program history in the category.
Â
Statistics aside, it is hard to qualify the impact of these three terrific Pirates, this season or for their careers. The trio marks the end of their time in Greenville with 10 combined All-Conference selections, five seasons of team captainship, 340 points, 215 goals, 125 assists, 143 draw controls, 146 caused turnovers and 280 ground balls in 213 games played.
