Clemson, S.C. – The East Carolina softball team hits the road for a final weekend tournament before conference play begins as the team is set to compete in the Tiger Invitational Feb. 28-Mar. 2 at McWhorter Stadium.
The Pirates will face host Clemson on Friday at 3 p.m. on ACCNX and then will compete against Lafayette and Indiana on Saturday and will conclude play on Sunday either at 10 a.m. or 12:30 p.m.
ECU concluded an 11-game homestand with two wins on Wednesday, defeating UNCW 7-5, behind four home runs in the third inning and beating N.C. Central 9-3 in the night cap of the doubleheader.Â
Kanisha Anderson has had a strong start at the plate for ECU, batting .514 and the speedy sophomore has recorded a hit in 11 of ECU's 14 games. Morgan Johnson went 9-of-12 at the plate last weekend, including tying a career-high with four hits against Loyola Chicago to earn AAC Player of the Week honors. ECU currently has four players batting over .350. The two-headed monster of Kendall Frost (2.39 ERA, 25 strikeouts) and Taylor Apple (2.85 ERA, 38 strikeouts) leads the Pirates' pitching staff in the circle. Devin Long picked up her first career win in the circle against N.C. Central.
The Clemson Series
Friday afternoon will mark the first meeting between East Carolina and Clemson.
The Indiana Series
ECU is 1-2 all-time versus Indiana with all three contests being played at a neutral site. The last time the Pirates and Hoosiers met on the diamond was Mar. 4, 2012, in the DeMarini Invitational with Indiana holding on for a 5-4 win.
The Lafayette Series
The Pirates lead the all-time series with Lafayette 2-0 as Saturday will mark the first meeting between the two teams since Mar. 18, 1994, when ECU defeated Lafayette 8-1 in Greenville.
