May 16, 2025 | Lacrosse
NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – East Carolina lacrosse's Emma Magazu has been named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-South Region Second Team, the organization announced Thursday. Magazu is the third player in program history to earn All-Region honors.
Â
In just her first season in Greenville, Magazu, a senior from Newtown, Conn., became the Pirates' go-to defensive stopper and made her mark on the program record book in the process. In total, she compiled an ECU record 30 caused turnovers and 43 ground balls which rank second in program history.
Â
Magazu was named American Athletic Conference weekly honors in her first attempt and went on to become the program's first ever American Defensive Player of the Year for her excellence on the season.
Â
Her statistics rank her well among her peers as well as against the lore of Pirate lacrosse. She ranks 36th in the NCAA with 1.76 caused turnovers per game and 44th nationally with 2.53 ground balls per game. Magazu ranks second in The American in both categories as well.
Â
With her All-Region accolade, Magazu becomes the third Pirate in program history to earn such honors after Alexandra Giacolone and Frances Kimel both earned Second Team recognition in 2023.
Â
On the season, Magazu led the Pirates to a 7-10 record with a program record 4-2 mark in league play and an appearance in the 2025 American Athletic Conference Tournament.
