
Pirates Defeat Notre Dame 4-3, Fall To Maryland 4-1

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina softball team split its second day of play at the Purple-Gold Classic, defeating Notre Dame 4-3 and falling to Maryland 4-1 at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium on Saturday.
East Carolina 4, Notre Dame 3
Jenna Krol went 3-for-3 at the plate as East Carolina outlasted Notre Dame 4-3 in the first of the Pirates' two games on Saturday.
Chloe Geijer and Trinity Nichols also each added an RBI for the Pirates who found themselves in another tight affair with the Fighting Irish but were able to prevent Notre Dame from sending the game to extras.
After trailing 3-2 entering the bottom of the fifth, the Pirates plated two runs to retake the lead and hold it the rest of the way.
Abby Huhn (1-0) picked up her first win of the year and Taylor Apple picked up her first save.
Maryland 4, East Carolina 1
Sarah Stone went 3-for-4 at the plate but East Carolina's offense struggled in the nightcap of day two at the Purple-Gold Classic as the Pirates fell to the Terrapins 4-1.
Maryland quickly got on the board with two runs in the top of the first but the Pirates answered with a run in the bottom of the first.Â
The Terrapins scored two runs in the fifth that proved to be enough to pick up the win.
