Pirates Open Battle At The Max With Run Rule Win Over Rider

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina softball team opened the Battle at the Max with a 10-2 run rule win over Rider on Friday evening at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.
Jenna Krol led ECU (11-7) with three hits and two RBI while Lillian Martineau, Kanisha Anderson, Macey Ciamillo and Anna Sawyer each had two hits on the night.
Rider jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning but the Pirates got on the board in the bottom of the first and took the lead for good in the bottom of the second.
The Pirates' lead continued to grow over each inning with a combination of hits from ECU's bats and errors from Rider. ECU scored the game-ending run on Krol's single that scored Martineau and Rider's outfielder was unable to field the ball cleanly, allowing Anderson to score from second.
Julia Apostolakos (6-4) tossed two strikeouts in three innings for the win.

East Carolina faces St. John's at 12:30 p.m and Rider at 3 p.m. tomorrow.
