Memphis, Tenn. – Hailey Deter hit a grand slam in the top of the fifth inning as East Carolina run ruled Memphis, 16-5, in five innings to win the series finale over the Tigers on Sunday afternoon at Tigers Softball Complex.

Macey Ciamillo also went yard for the Pirates (22-11, 6-3 American) who scored a season-high 16 runs and hit multiple home runs in only their second game of the year and are off to their best start ever through nine games in American Conference play.

ECU jumped ahead 1-0 in the top of the first on an RBI single from Gabby Fowler but Memphis drew four walks and got hit by a pitch to take a 2-1 edge in the bottom of the second.

The Pirates took control with six runs in the top of the third, capped off by Ciamillo's two-run bomb and the Pirates tacked on four more runs in the top of the fourth on Trinity Nichols' two-run single and a Tigers' error leading to two more runs.

Memphis hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 11-3 but ECU continued to stay hot at the plate as Deter's grand slam put the finishing touches on the blowout win for the Pirates.

Sydney Rainford (6-4) picked up the win in 2.1 innings of relief.
