Pirates Fall At Home To No. 19 Stanford, 7-2
March 25, 2026 | Softball
GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina softball team fell at home to No. 19 Stanford, 7-2, on Wednesday night at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.
Trinity Nichols went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Pirates (22-12, 6-3 American) who were looking to get their second win over a ranked opponent this season.
After a quick first inning, Stanford struck first on a three-run shot over the outfield wall to go in front 3-0 in the top of the second. The Cardinal added another run via a sac fly to extend their lead to 4-0 in the top of the third but the Pirates got on the board in the bottom of the inning after Anna Sawyer's sac fly scored Hailey Deter.
Stanford remained in control, adding two more runs in the top of the fourth. The Pirates threatened in the bottom of the fifth after Deter's single and a walk drawn by Macey Ciamillo put ECU in scoring position with no outs but a ground out double play snuffed out any momentum for the home team.
ECU scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 6-2 but another double play prevented the Pirates from cutting deeper into Stanford's lead as the Cardinal added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to seal the win.
Sydney Rainford (6-5) took the loss in the circle while Stanford's Zoe Prystajko (10-2) tossed seven strikeouts for the win.
