Pirates Defeat Campbell, 2-1
March 04, 2026 | Softball
Buies Creek, N.C. – The East Carolina softball team picked up a midweek win ahead of the start of conference play, winning 2-1 over Campbell at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Kanisha Anderson got the Pirates (15-8) going early with a double and then a steal of third base and Anna Sawyer hit a sac fly to score Anderson and put the Pirates in front 1-0 in the top of the first. Campbell loaded the bases with two outs to threaten but the Fighting Camels grounded out to Julia Apostolakos to end the inning.
Campbell tied the game at 1-1 but Sawyer made a spectacular catch to send the game into the third inning and prevent a home run from the Fighting Camels. ECU had two runners in scoring position in the top of the third but the Pirates were unable to plate any runs.
The Fighting Camels loaded the bases again in the bottom of the third with two outs but Apostolakos forced a pop out to keep the game tied at 1-1 going into the fourth.
The Pirates jumped in front after Apostolakos singled and Trinity Nichols scored on a Campbell error in the top of the fourth and the Pirates' defense held the Fighting Camels' bats in check the rest of the way to pick up the win.
Apostolakos (8-4) picked up the complete game win with a season-high six strikeouts tossed.
