Pirates Drop Conference Opener To Wichita State, 14-5

Kanisha Anderson went 2-for-3 with a triple to lead the Pirates (15-9, 0-1 American) who held a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fourth before Wichita State's offense exploded down the stretch.
Jodie Epperson went 3-for-5 with three runs and six RBI, including two home runs to lead Wichita State (11-8, 1-0 American).
After Wichita took a 2-0 lead early, the Pirates tied the game in the bottom of the third after Anna Sawyer scored on a Shocker error. The Shockers went back in front 4-2 in the top of the fourth but the Pirates took advantage of some miscues and used savvy baserunning to go in front 5-4 going into the fifth.
The Shockers responded in the top of the fifth and retook the lead at 6-5 and used a seven-run seventh inning to blow the game open.
Taylor Apple (2-3) took the loss in two innings of relief.
