April 25, 2026 | Lacrosse
GREENVILLE, N.C. – For what was a slow game to begin, it finished anything but as the East Carolina lacrosse team used second-half outburst to blow by the Charlotte 49ers, 21-10, on Saturday afternoon on Bill Clark Homes Field at Johnson Stadium. With the win, the Pirates officially secured their spot as the three seed in the American Conference Tournament taking place next week in Nashville.
Â
With 35 points on 21 goals and 14 assists, the Pirates (8-8, 3-3 American) broke single-game records in all three categories for an historic outing. On the other side of the ball, the team's 15 caused turnovers were tied for second in a game in program history.
Â
The game got off to a sluggish start, only three goals being scored in the first 11-minutes plus of action. Charlotte (6-9, 1-5 American) held the lead for much of the early going, eventually taking a 5-3 lead on a goal by Katie Gorski with 6:18 in the second quarter.
Â
From there, five goals in a row by ECU pushed the hosts into the lead, all tallied by different players. Sarah Goodison, who scored the second goal in that run, later assisted on two more in the spurt on her way to an eight-point game with five goals and three assists. A career high in points, also ranking second in program history, her five goals matched a season high.
Â
On the Pirates' final goal of the half, Skyler Blanton assisted on a Rachel Chessock goal. It was her first career point in what was a terrific game for the defender. The 49ers scored the final goal of the half with nine seconds remaining to briefly stem the tide, making it a two-goal game going into the break.
Â
The second half was all Pirates. 6-2 and 7-2 quarters blew the game wide open, finally reaching a double-digit margin with 5:44 remaining in the game. Goodison scored four goals in the second half while Maya Koebke had a second-half hattrick and Katelyn Sclafani added a pair as well in the final 30 minutes of action. Both players finished the day with five points on four goals and an assist.
Â
Though the offense stole the show at times, ECU defense had an excellent day. Freshman Ava De Villava recorded a career best four caused turnovers while Kayla Wilkes had the kind of game that she's accustomed too with three ground balls and two caused turnovers to go with two goals and a draw control.
Â
In goal, Jaime Behar had a very good day with nine saves to just 10 goals allowed in her final game in Johnson Stadium.
Â
With the win, the Pirates finish the regular season with a 6-1 record at home. It is the program's second season in a row with a .500-or-better record in league play and the third time in four years. The team has finished third in the league on each occasion.
