Record-Breaking Koebke Propels Pirates in 16-9 Win Over William & Mary
April 08, 2026 | Lacrosse
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Senior Maya Koebke broke program records with nine points and six assists as the East Carolina lacrosse team closed the day on a nine-goal to defeat William & Mary, 16-9, on Wednesday evening.
Â
The Pirate (5-7, 1-2 American) defense got off to a sluggish start, allowing 18 shots in just the first quarter, 12 of which came on goal. Starting goalkeeper Maeve Meehan fared well at first with seven saves in the opening quarter, however the sophomore began to struggle leading to the entrance of senior Jaime Behar just before halftime. Behar excelled, making four saves to just a solitary goal allowed in 31:37 played.
Â
The teams traded runs early, sparring with 4-0 runs either way before William & Mary (7-6, 2-2 CAA) got goals from Grace Walter and Kate Draddy to close the first half, taking an 8-7 lead into the break. ECU was led by a Sarah Goodison hattrick in the first half while Rachel Chessock and Koebke both notched a pair of goals. Koebke also had two assists in the first half.
Â
The Tribe would score the first goal of the second half, also by Walter, tallied at the 13:35 mark of the third quarter, and never scored again.
Â
From there it was all Pirates. Jamie Collender and Rachel Chessock scored the next two goals to give the Pirates the lead at 10-9 with under five to play in the third, and the team never looked back. Collender and Chessock both again, along with single scores from Kayla Wilkes and Katelyn Sclafani, as well as another Koebke goal. Koebke assisted on four second-half goals to reach her six-assist total.
Â
By the time it was all said and done, it was a 9-0 run for ECU which ended the game and made it a triumphant day for a team needing a win. Five goals by Rachel Chessock gave her a season high and tied her career best. But the headline of the day belongs to Koebke. Her nine points and six assists both set new program benchmarks for ECU. The old records—eight and five, respectively—had each been done several times before. The single-game point record of eight had been done four times, most recently by Frances Kimel on March 30, 2024, while the assist record had been done twice, also most recently by Kimel in that same game against Cincinnati.
