Mayock, Miotto Score As Pirates Defeat Western Carolina 2-0 Sunday

Cullowhee, N.C. – AJ Mayock and Anna Miotto both recorded a goal as East Carolina picked up its first win of the 2026 season with a 2-0 win against Western Carolina at Catamount Athletic Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Mayock scored her first goal of the season and became the fifth different Pirate to record a goal this season while Miotto tallied her second goal of the year. Olivia Dietrich posted her second clean sheet of the year and added seven saves.
The Pirates got on the board first at the 17th minute after Caitlen-Star Dolan Boodram's free kick attempt was saved by the Catamounts but the ball wasn't secured and Mayock found herself in the right place at the right time to boot the ball in the back of the net.
Western Carolina held possession for much of the half's final 10 minutes but ECU countered with a quick attack that resulted in a long-range goal from Miotto that just went over the outstretched arms of Western Carolina's Elizabeth Rupert.
The Catamounts threatened early in the second half after earning a free kick just outside of the box but the shot attempt off the free kick was wide as ECU maintained its lead. Dietrich and the Pirates' defense would continue to thwart Western Carolina's attack in the second half as ECU secured the road win.
