Grace Coon was named assistant coach for East Carolina lacrosse on Tuesday, August 29, 2023.Â
In 2025, Coon helped the Pirates to an overall record of 7-10 while setting a program record for American Athletic Conference wins with a 4-2 mark in league play. In so doing, the Pirates made the conference tournament where they faced South Florida. The team made a habit of playing close games on the year with eight one-goal games, nearly working their way to an even better record.

The 2025 season also saw the Pirates achieve several individual honors under Coon's guidance. Emma Magazu and Kayla Wilkes became the first ECU players ever to win player of the year honors as they were named American Defensive Player of the Year and American Midfielder of the Year, respectively. Both players were named unanimously to the All-Conference First Team while four other players earned Second-Team nods. Additionally, Magazu became just the third player in program history to earned IWLCA All-Region honors with South Region Second Team recognition.
In Coon's first season with ECU, the team compiled a 4-12 final record while breaking numerous records along the way, including the program's single-season ground ball record and many individual career marks. Three players to All-Conference recognition with Caroline Kimel taking First-Team honors and Ellie Bromley and Alexandra Giacolone taking Second-Team accolades. Throughout the season, individuals were also named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll on eight occasions.
Coon joined East Carolina after an illustrious playing career at the University of Connecticut. where she was a three-time Second-Team All-Big East honoree playing on the attack as well as being named to the IWLCA All-Region Second Team in 2021. A Marcellus, N.Y. native, Coon registered 91 goals and over 100 points in her illustrious career in Storrs. She also ranks second in program history in career shooting percentage.
The job is Coon's first career coaching position.
