GREENVILLE, N.C. – Coming off the first loss of the season, the ECU women's soccer team will be looking to bounce back with a home game against Campbell on Thursday evening. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., in Johnson Stadium.
Â
"It is always good to be home, especially coming off a road trip and our first loss," said head coach Jason Hamilton. "The ladies need to bring a lot of energy and take advantage of playing in front of our fans."
Â
ECU (3-1-2) started the season without a loss through five games for just the second time in program history, but the streak ended with a 2-1 loss at George Mason on Sunday afternoon. The Pirates took a 1-0 lead when Jenna Dages scored in the 13th minute, but George Mason scored in the 20th and 57th minute to come back and win. Dages' goal was her third in as many games, becoming the first Pirate to score in three straight games since Kendall Frey found the back of the net in four straight games in 2013. Even after the loss, the Pirates remain ranked No. 7 in the South region by the United Soccer Coaches.
Â
Dages and goalkeeper Melanie Stiles both earned spots on the AAC weekly Honor Roll after their performance last week. Dages added the game-winning goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over Richmond, giving her five points during the week. She currently leads the team with nine points on four goals and an assist. Stiles completed her first shutout of her ECU career in the win over Richmond, making four saves in the win. She followed it up with six saves against George Mason. Stiles has goals against average of 0.96 and a save percentage of 0.793 so far this season and her 23 saves rank her 89th in the NCAA.
Â
Campbell (1-4-0) opened the season with a 4-1 win over South Carolina State, but have not scored a goal in four straight losses since. The Camels played a pair of matches last weekend, losing 1-0 at home to Liberty and 2-0 at Western Carolina. Alexa Genas was chosen as the Big South Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and leads Campbell with a pair of goals and eight shots so far this season. Erin Scott has started all five games in goal for the Camels and has a goals against average of 1.52 and a save percentage of 0.781.
Â
"Campbell is in every game they play and have an offense that can get hot quickly," Hamilton said. "We have to be prepared for that and make sure that we are sound defensively. They will be tough to break down because they work hard to get numbers behind the ball. We have to keep the ball moving quickly to open things up."
Â
ECU has an all-time record of 11-4-1 against Campbell. The most recent meeting was last season, when ECU claimed a 1-0 win on the road. Courtney Cash scored the game-winning goal in that match, with Cashlin Copley and Erin Mikalsen tallying assists. It was the first meeting since 2014. ECU is 5-2-1 at home against Campbell, with a 1-0 victory in 2014 the only time the two schools have met in Johnson Stadium.
