Pirates Come Up Short At All-American Championships
October 08, 2019 | Women's Tennis
TULSA, OKLA. – An early loss for Alisa Diercksen and Lisa Hofbauer of the ECU women's tennis team cut their run short at the ITA All-American Championships at the Case Tennis Center LaFortune Park.
Â
"We knew going into this event that we would have to play well to win matches, unfortunately our nerves took over and we were far from our best," said associate head coach Kirstin Burgess. "Hopefully we can learn from this and be better prepared for our next opportunity."
Â
Hofbauer and Diercksen opened the tournament in the qualifying draw and needed three wins to earn a spot in the main draw. Unfortunately for the Pirates, their run ended prematurely when they dropped a hard fought 8-6 decision against Boise State's Joana Baptista and Lilian Poling.
Â
The Pirates played a consolation match before heading back east. Hofbauer and Diercksen battled gamely but came up short against Wyoming's Mihaela Kaftanova and Ida Krause 8-4.
Â
The rest of the Pirates will be in action this weekend at the Charlotte Invite. Play is scheduled to get started on Friday, Oct. 11.
