GREENVILLE, N.C. – The fall season will come to an end with a home tournament as the ECU women's tennis team hosts the ECU Invitational this weekend at River Birch Tennis Complex.

Michelle Ncube leads the Pirates with an 8-2 singles record and is coming off winning her draw at the ITA Carolina Regional Championships. Right behind Ncube is Nastja Rettich, who has racked up a 7-3 ledger to start her senior campaign.

Other than Ncube and Rettich, ECU has struggled on the singles court and will be hoping to finish the fall campaign strong. Lisa Hofbauer, who was the top singles player for ECU last season, is 0-4 this fall in singles after playing some of the best players in the country and will try to gain some momentum heading into the spring. Sibel Tanik has been a bright spot for ECU, going 5-6 in her first collegiate season.

On the doubles court, Ncube and Rettich have excelled as well, teaming to go 5-3 as a tandem. The freshman duo of Tanik and Hanna Axelsson has been nearly unbeatable so far, winning five of their six matches together. Hofbauer and Diercksen are 2-3 after playing at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic and the ITA All-American Championships, two of the best tournaments during the fall season.

ECU will be one of five teams competing in Greenville this weekend. Along with the Pirates, players from Charlotte, Charleston Southern, Elon and NC Central will vie for the tournament title.

Play will start on Friday, Nov. 8 and will continue through Saturday, Nov. 9. The matches on Friday will get started at 10 a.m., while the teams will get underway at 9 a.m., on Saturday. All matches will take place at the River Birch Tennis Complex and attendance is free for all fans.
