GREENVILLE, N.C. – With just one game left before the start of the inaugural AAC slate, the ECU women's lacrosse team will try to build momentum as the Pirates take on Longwood on Saturday afternoon.
Â
"In terms of what we're going to do, like in the Campbell game, the focus is on us," said head coach Amanda Barnes Moore. "What we want to execute and in our fundamentals, it's just about getting better."
Â
ECU (5-5) just missed snapping its losing streak, falling to Campbell 11-10 in the longest game in program history. The Pirates trailed all day, but a 5-2 run to end regulation helped ECU take the Camels to overtime. The teams both had chances in the first two overtimes, but neither could convert. Finally, Campbell got the game-winning goal in the third overtime period, sending ECU to its fourth straight loss.
Â
Nicole LeGar had a big week for ECU and was named to the American Weekly Honor Roll. LeGar set new career highs with four goals against George Washington and then had three assists against Campbell. Hannah Rzempoluch was the second Pirate to score four goals last weekend when she bagged four tallies against the Camels. Brittany Borchers leads the Pirates with 25 points on 11 goals and 14 assists and she is third in the American in helpers and seventh in points. Also in the top 10 of the league in points is Ally Stanton (13 goals, 11 assists), ranking ninth.
Â
Defensively, Christina White leads the conference in saves per game (10.6) and saves (106) and she is tied for fourth in the country in total saves. Hannah Melton leads ECU with 10 caused turnovers and is second on the team in ground balls, with her 15 ground balls trailing only White's 24. At the draw circle, LeGar has a team-best 36 draw controls while Camryn Pennypacker has 30 of her own.Â
Â
Longwood (2-7) has lost four straight games, but three of those came on the road. Longwood and ECU have three common opponents, as both teams have beaten George Washington, both have fallen to Old Dominion while ECU beat Saint Francis and Longwood lost to the Flash. Kaitlin Luccarelli leads the Lancer offense, scoring 25 goals and handing out 12 assists. Dana Joss has added a second goal-scoring threat, bagging 18 goals to go with 10 assists while Taylor Blenckstone has 12 goals and a team-best 15 assists. Jordan Howard leads the team with 47 draw controls while Joss also has 37. In the cage, Danielle Burke has started six games and has a .405 save percentage. Laura O'Toole has started the other four games and she has a .495 save percentage. Last season, the two teams met in Greenville and Longwood claimed a 17-13 win. The game was tied 12-12, but Longwood scored five of the game's final six goals.
