GREENVILLE, N.C. – After a 1-1 start on the road, the ECU lacrosse team will get its first chance to play in front of its home fans as the Pirates take on Wofford on Saturday afternoon in Johnson Stadium.
Â
ECU (1-1) opened its season with a loss at Furman and a dominant win at Presbyterian. Nicole LeGar led the Pirates with nine points during the opening weekend, including a career-high six at Presbyterian. She also leads ECU in draw controls (nine) and caused turnovers (five) and was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll for her performance. Along with LeGar, Megan Tryniski and Elizabeth Wilson each had hat tricks against Presbyterian while Ally Stanton pulled the feat against Furman. Tryniski is second on the team with five goals and is tied with MacKell Schultes with five points. Schultes has a pair of goals and three assists. In the cage, Ashley Vernon made her first two career starts and had 13 saves over the two games. Liz Blumthal scooped up a team-best seven ground balls last weekend and is tied with Schultes and Sam Caputo with a pair of caused turnovers.
Â
Wofford (0-1) started its season on Thursday night when the Terriers lost 20-5 at Duke. Wofford is coming off a 2019 season that saw the Terriers finish 4-13 overall and 1-4 in the Southern Conference, ahead of only Delaware State. Like ECU, Wofford is in its third season as a lacrosse program. Hannah Mutch returns after leading Wofford with 33 points last year on 27 goals and six assists. Ally Furnari was right behind her with 32 points on a team-high 28 goals and four helpers. The Terriers return five of their six scorers in total. On the other end, Kelsey Thompson is the only goalkeeper to play over the past two seasons for Wofford and she will return with 34 career games under her belt. She finished 2019 with 155 saves on 528 shots faced. Hannah Wurzel led Wofford with 39 draw controls while Furnari caused a team-high 20 turnovers.
Â
Wofford will be the second Southern Conference team that ECU will take on this season. The Pirates opened the season against Furman and fell 14-11. Furman was picked to finish in second in the Southern Conference Preseason Poll while Wofford was picked fifth. The only other Southern Conference team that ECU has faced in its brief history is Delaware State. The Pirates beat the Hornets in both 2018 and 2019.

The game is scheduled to start at 12 noon in Johnson Stadium and admission is free for all fans. Those who cannot make it to Johnson Stadium can watch the game here or follow the live stats here.
