GREENVILLE, N.C. – After two blowout victories, the ECU lacrosse team tries to add another win to its total as the Pirates travel to Campbell on Saturday afternoon.
Â
ECU (2-1) opened its season with a 14-11 loss to Furman, but has outscored Presbyterian and Wofford by a combined 39-14 in the past two games. Offensively, Nicole LeGar leads the way with 14 points on nine goals and five assists. She has had at least five points in each of the last two games. Megan Pallozzi had perhaps her best game as a Pirate in the win over Wofford, scoring five goals and adding an assist, all in the first half. She is second on the team with nien points this season. Megan Tryniski had just 10 points during her rookie campaign, but already has eight this season, including scoring seven goals. The Pirates' offense has shown depth as well, with seven players contributing at least five points and 14 getting at least one point.
Â
On the defensive end, Ashley Vernon has started all three games in the crease and is coming off her first career appearance on the AAC Weekly Honor Roll. She had six saves against Wofford and allowed just five goals. On the season, the rookie from Medford, N.J., has made 19 saves and has a .432 save percentage. In front of Vernon, Sam Caputo, Amy Jarvis, Jordyn Cox and Liz Blumthal have started all three games while Cece Bartley has started a pair. Blumthal has caused a team-high five turnovers and grabbed nine ground balls. LeGar and Camryn Pennypacker lead the Pirates at the draw circle, collecting 14 and 10, respectively, draw controls.
Â
Campbell (0-4) has struggled to start the season, losing three of its four games by at least five goals. The Camels have come close to getting a win in their two home games, losing 14-13 against Coastal Carolina and 14-9 against Mercer. Julianna Sanchez leads Campbell with 11 points, including a team-high 10 goals. Laura Will is right behind her with 10 points on five goals and five assists. At the draw circle, Sam Carey has 14 draw controls while Sanchez has 13. Rebekah Taylor leads the team in caused turnovers (9) and ground balls (8) while Carey is second in both, with four and nine respectively. In the goal, Alex Salim has started all four games and has made 54 saves with a .477 save percentage.
Â
The Pirates and Camels have met twice, with Campbell winning both meetings. Last season, it took three overtimes to separate the two teams before Campbell finally got an 11-10 victory. ECU trailed 5-1 and 6-2 in that game, but fought back to tie the game in the final two minutes of the second half to force overtime. Hannah Rzemopoluch had four goals for the Pirates wile LeGar had three assists. In the only meeting in Buies Creek between the two programs, Campbell won 17-8 in 2018.
