Pirates Try To Win Fifth Straight At VCU

ECU (4-1) has won four straight games since dropping its season-opener at Furman. The Pirates have outscored opponents 63-32 in that span. Megan Pallozzi and Ashley Vernon are the reigning AAC Attack Player of the Week and AAC Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, and each had strong performances in ECU's win over Longwood. Pallozzi had a pair of goals and is second on the team with 15 points on a team-high 13 goals and two assists. Vernon has started all five games in the cage for ECU and has 37 saves. The freshman has made a career-high nine stops in back-to-back games. Â Nicole LeGar leads the team with 16 points on 11 goals and five assists. The junior also leads the team with 25 draw controls, seven caused turnovers, and four free-position goals. Megan Tryniski has already set a new-career high with 14 points on 11 goals and three assists while Ally Stanton is coming off a four-goal game against Longwood and is up to 11 points on the season.

VCU (2-2) has won two straight games since opening the year 0-2. Like ECU, the Rams have beaten Wofford and Presbyterian. Kerian McTavish leads VCU with 22 points on 14 goals and eight assists and was recently named the A-10 Player of the Week. Jessica Del Rossi and Savannah Slack both have 14 points while Anna Koniencki has 10 points. Caroline Glenn leads the team with 13 draw controls while Koniencki has 12. Glenn is also second on the team with 10 ground balls, while Gillian Belfiore has a team-high 15. In the cage, Belfiore has started all four games and is up to 36 saves on a .514 save percentage. As a team, the Rams are ranked 15th in the country in shots per game, ripping 34.75 shots each night. They do struggle at the eight-meter arc, ranking 76th in the country with a shooting percentage of .364 on free position shots.
