GREENVILLE, N.C. – Following a 1-1 start to the season, the ECU lacrosse team will head to Davidson for a Friday evening matchup.
Â
The Pirates opened the season with a 16-14 home victory over Furman before falling on the road at No. 13 Virginia. Following the win over Furman, Nicole LeGar was named the AAC's Midfielder of the Week after she recorded two goals, four assists eight draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover. Along with LeGar, Megan Pallozzi was honored by the conference as her five goals against the Paladins earned her a spot on the league's weekly Honor Roll.
Â
Pallozzi leads ECU with nine points on eight goals and one assists. She is a perfect 5-of-5 on free position shots. Megan Tryniski leads the Pirates with six assists and also has two goals for eight points. LeGar is the top Pirate at the draw circle, grabbing 11 draw controls so far while Frances Kimel has eight draw controls and a team-high five ground balls. Courtney Frank has caused three turnovers in her first two collegiate games, tied with senior Sam Caputo for the team lead. In the cage, Ashley Vernon has started both games so far and has 14 saves while Christina White has made two saves in 35 minutes of action.
Â
Like ECU, Davidson has opened its season with a 1-1 record thanks to a loss to a ranked opponent and a win over Furman. The Wildcats opened their season with a 16-11 loss to No. 15 Duke before beating Furman 14-10. Gianna New has been the top scorer for Davidson, leading the Wildcats with seven goals and one assist while also grabbing a team-high 14 draw controls. She had five goals to go along with 12 draw controls against Furman. The offense has been balanced behind New, with four other players recording at least four points and 10 different players scoring at least one goal through two games. Defensively, Noelle Cegielski leads Davidson in ground balls, grabbing eight and is second on the team in caused turnovers, with four compared to six for Natalie Junior. In the crease, Amanda Monahan has started both games and has 13 saves for a save percentage of .333.
Â
It will be the first ever meeting between the Pirates and the Wildcats. ECU has played just one other Atlantic-10 opponent, having taken on George Washington in 2018 and 2019. The Pirates are 1-1 in those two matchups, winning a 10-9 thriller in 2019 and losing in Greenville during ECU's inaugural 2018 campaign.
Â
Friday night's game is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m., at Davidson's Richardson Stadium.
