Pirates Begin 2024 Campaign Hosting Queens Saturday

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina lacrosse team is set to begin their 2024 campaign on Saturday at 12 p.m. as they welcome the Queens Royals to Johnson Stadium. The game will be the first under head coach Brittany Dipper as the Pirates embark upon a new era for the program.

A New Era
After winning 10 games for the first time a season ago, the Pirates welcome a new coaching staff – but a lot of familiar faces on the field. Three All-Conference performers are back in Frances Kimel, Alexandra Giacolone and Brynn Knight. Knight and Kimel were tabbed AAC Preseason All-Conference with Knight named Preseason Goalkeeper of the year. On a similar note, the Pirates return a whole lot of production from a season ago: 68.98 percent (149/216) of all goals, 75.25 percent (219/291) of all points and a whopping 93.33 percent (70/75) of all assists from 2023.

O Captain, My Captain
Ellie Bromley, Alexandra Giacolone, Maddie Kercher and Frances Kimel have been named captains for the 2024 season. Bromley is a two-time captain and Kimel is now a three-time team captain.

Scouting Queens
The Royals enter 2024 looking to build on a successful 10-8 campaign a season ago as they made the leap from perennial DII powerhouse to a DI program which looked like it belonged. Good news for the Royals is that they bring back 2023 top scorer Kayleen Favreau who will look to continue the success of her remarkable freshman year.

Series History
The Pirates and Royals met for the first time last season and it turned out to be a dandy with ECU taking the win, 11-9. Kimel led the Pirates that day with four goals, including the goal which iced it with 44 seconds remaining - Erin Gulden had scored the game-winning tally with 2:52 to play. Brynn Knight made 11 saves in the game as she earned the W.
