GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina softball team returns home looking to get back on track as the Pirates host Wichita State for their home conference opener beginning on Friday, Mar. 15 at 5 p.m inside Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.
All three games of the series will be streamed via ESPN+ and admission for all three games is free for fans.Â
The Pirates are coming off a tough weekend that saw the team get swept by North Texas and ECU's red-hot offense was shut out for the first time this season in back-to-back games. ECU is off to one of its better starts in program history, entering this weekend's matchup at 21-5.
Emma Jackson leads ECU at the plate, batting .489 and tallying 43 hits (1st in AAC/1st in NCAA) along with 19 doubles (1st in AAC/1st in NCAA). Jackson was recently named best outfielder in the country by D1Softball and the eighth-best outfielder in the country by Softball America for the month of March and is Morgan Johnson leads the American and is ninth in the country in RBI with 32. ECU is currently first in the AAC in runs scored (167), hits (235), on-base percentage (.421) and doubles (57). The Pirates currently have three players who are hitting .400 or higher at the plate.
Scouting the Shockers
The Shockers are led at the plate by CC Wong's .485 batting average and are one of the top teams in the nation at driving the ball out of the park with 1.5 home runs per game (8th in NCAA). Chloe Barber leads Wichita State in the circle with a 4-3 record. Wichita State leads the all-time series with East Carolina 14-3 and have taken seven meetings with the Pirates. ECU's last win over the Shockers was an 8-4 road win on Mar. 27, 2021.
