GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina lacrosse team will look to continue its winning start to the 2025 season as it travels to Elon on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. tilt with the Phoenix. Originally scheduled for February 15, the game was postponed due to inclement weather.
The game will be available for streaming on FloCollege.
Last Time Out
The Pirates opened the season on a victorious note with a wire-to-wire win over Queens last Saturday. Kayla Wilkes returned to action after seeing her 2024 season ended prematurely with injury to score a team-leading five goals. On the other side of the ball, it was an excellent defensive effort paced by Emma Magazu and Caroline Meininger's four caused turnovers apiece while Jaime Behar made eight saves in goal.
Scouting the Phoenix
Elon enters the game with a 1-2 record, having gotten in the win column against VCU with a dominant 17-6 result on Saturday. Kailey McKenna led the team with five goal in the game while Cierra Hopson netted a hat trick and Sammy Fisher recorded five points on two goals and three assists. On the season, Fisher leads the team in points and goals with eight and five, respectively while Caitlin Walsh has gotten the majority of the minutes in goal with 17 saves made.
Series History
The Pirates and Phoenix met for the first time in 2023 and ran it back again last season with both teams taking home one victory. It was a 13-10 ballgame for Elon in Greenville last season in which an ECU comeback came up just short after drawing within one goal in the fourth quarter. Caroline Kimel led that charge with four goals on the day but she was bested by Fisher's five goals for the Phoenix. Spelling doom for ECU: a 22-5 margin for the visitors on draw controls with two players, MJ Santa Barbara (10) and Mikaela Buoscio (8) nabbing more draw controls themselves than the Pirates (5) had as a team.
