February 25, 2025 | Lacrosse
ELON, N.C. – The East Carolina lacrosse team was shut out for the final 28:34 of game time as Elon used a decisive five-goal run to hand the Pirates their first loss of the season, 12-7, on Tuesday evening at Rudd Field. Five Elon players scored multiple goals in the win while Kayla Wilkes was the lone Pirate to tally more than one with her hat trick.
Â
The game was back and forth for the entirety of the first half with neither team ever leading by more than one goal. Wilkes scored all of her three goals for the Pirates (1-1) in that first half to give the team life, trailing just 7-6 entering the second half.
Â
Out of the break, Rachel Chessock scored the tying goal just 1:26 into the third quarter to knot the game at seven apiece. It was all Elon (2-2) from there as four different Phoenix scored down the stretch.
Â
In most statistics, the game was relatively even. Elon had 15 turnovers to ECU's 16; 11 caused turnovers to eight; 13 draw controls to nine for the Pirates.
Â
Where the Pirates struggled was in getting shots off. Elon dominated that category 30-18 with a 20-15 margin in shots on goal. Jaime Behar held her own at times in goal with eight saves and two caused turnovers of her own, but the onslaught of shots made things a challenge for the junior goalkeeper.
