Pirates Set for Conference Opener Hosting South Florida

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina lacrosse team opens American Athletic Conference play in Johnson Stadium on Saturday with a 12 p.m. contest against the South Florida Bulls. Attendance for the game is free and for those unable to attend, the game will be available for streaming on ESPN+ with Dennis Cox and Gabby Sartori on the call.

Last Time Out
The Pirates earned a much-needed, decisive win over Quinnipiac on Sunday. Rachel Chessock had a career day with six points on four goals and two assists while Leah Bestany tallied five goals in the win. On the other side of the ball, Jaime Behar notched 12 saves while allowing just nine goals in a strong showing in goal. The Pirates also assisted on eight of their 17 goals as the offense cruised through stretches of looking like a well-oiled machine.

Scouting the Bulls
South Florida is in their first season of existence and in this new transfer portal era, they have hit the ground running. A 7-2 clip on the season has looked easy at times with an average margin of nearly seven goals per game. Sofia Chepenik has been absolutely dominant offensively with her 39 points on 30 goals and nine assists. She's gotten support from five other players posting 15-or-more points and on the defensive side Paige Pagano has gotten the majority of the run in goal with 86 saves and just 76 goals allowed.

Series History
Sunday will be the first ever meeting between the Pirates and Bulls. It is the fourth-consecutive game in which the Pirates have faced an opponent they have no competition history with.
