East Carolina Run Ruled By Wichita State In Series Opener, 11-2
April 11, 2025 | Softball
Wichita, Kan. – The East Carolina softball team fell 11-2 in five innings to Wichita State in the series opener between the two teams on Friday evening at Wilkins Stadium.
Emma Jackson's home run in the top of the third, marked the Pirates' 50th homer of the season which leads the American. It is also only the third time in the program's fast pitch era that ECU has hit 50 or more home runs in a season and the first time since the 2007 season.
The Shockers jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with some timely hitting and aggressive base running but the Pirates were able to minimize any further damage from Wichita State by forcing two straight groundouts to end the inning.
After forcing the Pirates into three straight outs in the top of the second, Wichita State extended its lead to 5-0 after a three-run blast in the bottom of the second.
ECU responded with a two-run homer from Jackson to cut the deficit to three runs but Wichita State halted the Pirates' momentum with six runs in the bottom of the third to make the score 11-2 heading into the fourth.
Kendall Frost (9-11) took the loss, allowing seven hits and eight runs in two innings.
