Pirates Defeat William & Mary, 14-13
April 22, 2025 | Lacrosse
GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina lacrosse team defeated the William & Mary Tribe in an exciting 14-13 contest on Tuesday evening in Johnson Stadium.
Kayla Wilkes notched a career- and game- high seven points on a career-high tying five goals in the game, both of which are just one shy of ECU single game records. Wilkes led the Pirates (7-8, 4-1 AAC) to as much as a five-goal lead in the contest, but it was a lead which the hosts saw evaporate as William & Mary (5-10, 1-6 CAA) roared back to go ahead by a goal, 12-11 in the fourth quarter.
The Pirates closed strong through, returning two unanswered from the stick of Erin Gulden before Rachel Chessock netted the game-winning goal with 2:12 remaining in the game.
Jaime Behar got the win on the day with 10 saves for her seventh win of the season, third most in program history.
And it was a day for history on Tuesday as Emma Magazu's two caused turnovers helped the senior to best the ECU all-time record for a single season. Records are mostly meaningless without the context in which they are set and Magazu's record has plenty of meaning. Her 26 caused turnovers moves her past Pirate great and current assistant coach Alexandra Giacolone. Magazu notched the record in just her first season in Greenville as a senior transfer and got to break it in front of and while being mentored by the woman who set it in the first place.
The game itself was something of a rollercoaster for the Pirates who wound up out-shooting the Tribe 27-25 while narrowly losing the draw battle 16-14. The teams were even with 14 turnovers apiece.

The game is free for fans to attend and will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
