GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina closes out its regular season slate this weekend as the Pirates host North Texas for senior weekend at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.
Due to potential inclement weather in the area on Sunday, the series schedule has been altered with Sunday's contest being moved to Friday afternoon for a doubleheader. The series starts with the first pitch slated for 4 p.m. and the second game of the doubleheader scheduled to begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. The series finale will start at 2 p.m. on Saturday and prior to Saturday's first pitch, ECU will honor its seven seniors in Kylee Schojan, Jordan Hatch, Makenzie Mason, Logan Sutton, Annie Kate Dalton and Morgan Johnson. Sutton has started in 176 of her 195 games played for the Pirates, Hatch has thrown 340.1 innings in 109 appearances in the circle and Johnson and Dalton have combined for 41 home runs in their two seasons in Greenville.
All three contests will be streamed on ESPN+ with Patrick Johnson (play-by-play) and Brittany Hoyt (analyst) on the call.
ECU is coming off a series on the road against UAB that saw the Pirates hit 10 home runs over the course of the weekend, but the Blazers took the series with a 5-3 win in the finale.
The Pirates are led at the plate by Kanisha Anderson's .386 batting average (4th in AAC) and the sophomore leads the team with 19 multi-hit games and has recorded 66 hits this season (2nd in AAC). Emma Jackson, Morgan Johnson and Annie Kate Dalton combine for 43 of the Pirates' 70 home runs, which is tied for first in the league and is a new single-season program record, eclipsing the 2017 team's mark of 64 homers.Â
Jackson is currently tied with Isonette Polonius for the most home runs hit in a single season in ECU Softball history. Polonius hit 18 home runs in the 1999 season. Taylor Apple (3.23 ERA, 112 Ks) and Kendall Frost (3.86 ERA, 96 Ks) are the two main arms in the circle for ECU. Apple has eclipsed her season strikeout mark from last year (106) and is the first Pirate since Lydia Ritchie (2016-17) to record 100 or more strikeouts in back-to-back seasons.
Scouting the Mean Green
North Texas comes into the final weekend of the regular season having lost its last two contests including a midweek battle to No. 23 Oklahoma State, 6-1 on Wednesday. Cierra Simon leads the Mean Green with a .375 batting average and the senior is a threat on bases as well with 20 stolen bases this season. Anneca Anderson (3.38 ERA, 68 Ks) and Skylar Savage (3.70 ERA, 84 Ks) make up North Texas' two-headed monster in the circle.
Series History
North Texas leads the all-time series with East Carolina 4-0 with all of the four previous meetings taking place last year. The Mean Green swept the regular season series and run ruled the Pirates in the conference tournament, 9-1.
