GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina women's swimming and diving team closed out the regular season in dominant fashion on Saturday morning, defeating Georgia Southern 237-112 in dual meet action at Minges Natatorium.
Prior to the meet, the Pirates honored their nine seniors in Frida Zuniga, Kendall Bensen, Heidi Bruining, Sadie Covington, Emilee Hamblin, Alyssa Heffelfinger, Caitlin Irvine-Smith, Sara Kalawska and Laura Lopez.
"In the pool we swam/dove extremely well and have set ourselves up for a positive championship meet," head coach Matthew Jabs said. "Today was a great day for us. Not just in the pool but also having the opportunity to recognize a very special group of seniors who have meant a lot to this program. Our nine seniors have represented ECU, and our program with elite performance, and academic excellence for the last four years. We will truly miss them next season."
Multiple Pirates set personal bests including Tanith Mueller, Elena Dinehart, Alyssa Jackson, Abbey Pickel and Sadie Covington with Covington, Dinehart and Mueller recording top 10 all-time results in the pool today.
Mueller's 200 Butterfly time of 1:58.94 was also a Minges Natatorium record.
In the diving well, Frida Zuniga finished her regular season career without ever losing an event at home with first place finishes in both the 1-meter and 3-meter while Caitlin Irvine-Smith and Romina Hernandez finished with NCAA Zone Cut results in the 1-meter.
