Pirates In Third After Day One At American Conference Championship

Greensboro, N.C. – The East Carolina women's swimming and diving team completed its first day of competition at the American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

The Pirates finished second in the team diving event, setting an ECU record with a score of 286.05 just behind first-place North Texas' score of 298.25.

"Solid first day, this is a much-improved conference meet over last year," head coach Matthew Jabs said. "Our girls did a good job of stepping up at finals tonight with some personal bests in swimming, and scoring some valuable points."

Carlie Clements set a program record in the 50 freestyle with a finals time of 22.61 while Mikayla Durkin posted the fifth best all-time mark in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.92. Elena Dinehart's final time of 2:00.49 in the 200 IM was the third best in program history.

The Pirates continue competition in the American Conference Championship tomorrow with swimming prelims starting at 10:30 a.m. and diving prelims at 11 a.m.
