GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina lacrosse team hits the road to take on No. 23/24 Duke on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Koskinen Stadium. The game will be available for streaming on ACCNX.
Last Time Out
The Pirates used a dominant second half to take down Elon on Saturday afternoon, 12-9. Elon struck first, scoring twice within the first five minutes of play to take an early 2-0 lead. East Carolina responded quickly, as Rachel Chessock and Sarah Goodison found the back of the net in succussion to even the score at 2-2 at the end of the first quarter. Kayla Wilkes took charge in the second quarter adding two goals followed by Goodison's second to give the Pirates a 5-4 advantage going into halftime. The Pirates took control in the third quarter, outscoring the Phoenix 5-1. A pair of goals by Chessock highlighted her career day as four players got on the score board in the period. In the fourth quarter, Elon would fight back scoring three goals in a row before Chessock added her fourth goal to put the game to bed.
Scouting Duke
The Blue Devils enter the game with a 2-2 record on the heels of two overtime contests with Johns Hopkins (L, 14-13 2OT) and Richmond (W, 15-14 OT). Ranked 23rd in the IWLCA Coaches Poll and 24th in the KANE Media Poll, Duke is led offensively on the year by Avery Doran's 15 goals, pacing five players in double-figure points, including rookie Quinn Whitaker who has posted 10 goals already, second on the team behind Doran's 11. On the defensive side, seven players have recorded three-or-more caused turnovers, led by Sydney Smith with five. In goal, freshman Hope Schoudel has gotten all four starts, playing over 200 minutes and making 13 saves on the year.
Series History
The series between the Pirates and Blue Devils is one of the few which has been held in every year of the ECU lacrosse program. Duke has won all eight games, but their margin of victory has narrowed. In the Brittany Dipper era, the Pirates have dropped two games by a combined three goals, 14-12 in 2024 and 14-13 in 2025. In that most recent meeting, the Pirates hacked into a 14-10 deficit in the final 55 seconds with goals from Rachel Chessock, Katelyn Sclafani and Kayla Wilkes. ECU wound up winning the final draw control but Wilkes' attempt at a game winner wound up in a card for a dangerous shot, allowing Duke to run out the final seconds.Â
250 Saves
Jaime Behar made her 250th career save vs. Elon. She is the second goalkeeper in program history to reach the milestone. Brynn Knight holds the ECU record with 379 saves.
Weekly Honors
Emma Magazu has earned her second American Conference Defensive Player of the Week nod of the season after contributing four ground balls and three caused turnovers vs. Elon. Additionally, Jaime Behar, Rachel Chessock and Kayla Wilkes were named to the weekly Honorable Mention. This is Behar's second Honorable Mention recognition.
In The Community  Â
The program has made it a focus to strive not only for success on the field and in the classroom, but as representatives in the community. As a team, the Pirates logged 595.5 hours of community service in the fall.
Aspire
Assistant coach Kaelin Hogan graduated from the IWLCA's Aspire Program this spring. According to the organization, "The IWLCA Aspire program was designed to enhance coaches' professional skills, capabilities, and self-awareness through the dynamic blended learning approach."
At the Helm
The Pirates are entering year three under the leadership of head coach Brittany Dipper. Dipper has compiled an 12-22 record with a marked jump from her first to second seasons building anticipation for a successful 2026 campaign.
