GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina lacrosse team is back in action on Saturday, welcoming Temple to Bill Clark Homes Field at Johnson Stadium at 11 a.m. The game is free for fans to attend and will be available for streaming on ESPN+ with Zach Berly and Dennis Cox for those unable to make it out.
The game will be the Pirates' annual Senior Day as they honor the class of: Kayla Wilkes, Regan Reed, Katelyn Sclafani, Rachel Chessock, Maya Koebke, Taylor Padgett, Emma Magazu and Jaime Behar.
Last Time Out
The Pirates fell to James Madison 16-10 last Saturday. The team was led by Rachel Chessock, Jamie Collender, Sarah Goodison and Kayla Wilkes who all scored a pair of goals in the game. Jaime Behar got the start in cage and made four saves.
Scouting Temple
The Owls got off to an historic start this season with an 8-0 record for the program's best start in 1988. However, the team has since lost its last two games, each by a single goal to Rutgers (17-16) and South Florida (11-10) in its American Conference opener. USF scored four of the last five goals in that game to earn the victory. On the season, Temple is led by a trio of players already over 25 points with Lexi Culp posting 39 points on 20 goals and 19 assists, Amelia Wright with 28 goals and five assists and Sabrina Martin with 21 goals and eight assists. On the other side, Kaitlyn Stankavage leads the team with 16 caused turnovers and 21 ground balls as well as a team-high tying 26 draw controls. In cage, Riley Horoshko has earned the most minutes with 84 saves and a tremendous .542 save percentage.
Series History
The Pirates and Owls have met eight times with a 7-1 edge to Temple all ime. However, it was an ECU victory on the road a season ago and a thriller it was, with Riley Matthiesen tallying the game-winning goal in overtime. The Pirates erased a four-goal deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime, including a Leah Bestany goal with four seconds left to level the score at 10. Bestany only scored two goals in the game, but they were the final two goals in the final three minutes. Matthiesen led the team with three goals in the game.
In The Community  Â
The program has made it a focus to strive not only for success on the field and in the classroom, but as representatives in the community. As a team, the Pirates logged 595.5 hours of community service in the fall.
Aspire
Assistant coach Kaelin Hogan graduated from the IWLCA's Aspire Program this spring. According to the organization, "The IWLCA Aspire program was designed to enhance coaches' professional skills, capabilities, and self-awareness through the dynamic blended learning approach."
At the Helm
The Pirates are entering year three under the leadership of head coach Brittany Dipper. Dipper has compiled an 14-26 record with a marked jump from her first to second seasons building anticipation for a successful 2026 campaign.
