GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina lacrosse team is back on the road on Tuesday, this time taking on Virginia Tech at 1 p.m. at Thompson Field. The game will be available for streaming on ACCNX.
Last Time Out
The Pirates fell to No. 1 North Carolina, 23-3, on Saturday. Goals were scored by Riley Matthiesen, Maya Koebke and Kate Matthiesen for ECU.
Scouting Virginia Tech
The Hokies enter the game at 7-6 after a pair of tough losses against ranked foes in Duke and Clemson. The two teams have a trio of common opponents with Virginia Tech taking a 20-10 win over Queens, a 17-13 win over Elon and a 13-7 loss against James Madison. Additionally, Tech defeated High Point who ECU will play on April 15. The Hokies are led offensively by Lauren Render's 29 goals and Mia Pozzi's 35 points on 20 goals and a team-high 15 assists. Pozzi also leads the team with 88 draw controls, ranking 28th in the NCAA in the category. On the other side of the ball, Zoee Stencil leads the group with 21 caused turnovers and 15 ground balls. In cage, Malie Follet has gotten the start in all 13 games with 96 saves to a .421 save percentage.
Series History
Tuesday will be the first meeting between the Pirates and Hokies.
League Leading Magazu
Emma Magazu leads the American Conference in ground balls per game with 3.33 per game, .14 more than second place Olivia Rongo of James Madison.
Dual Threat
Kayla Wilkes is currently second in the American conference in caused turnovers per game at 2.11, .20 clear of third place but .98 shy of first place Olivia Rongo.
In The Community  Â
The program has made it a focus to strive not only for success on the field and in the classroom, but as representatives in the community. As a team, the Pirates logged 595.5 hours of community service in the fall.
Aspire
Assistant coach Kaelin Hogan graduated from the IWLCA's Aspire Program this spring. According to the organization, "The IWLCA Aspire program was designed to enhance coaches' professional skills, capabilities, and self-awareness through the dynamic blended learning approach."
At the Helm
The Pirates are entering year three under the leadership of head coach Brittany Dipper. Dipper has compiled an 15-26 record with a marked jump from her first to second seasons building anticipation for a successful 2026 campaign.
