
East Carolina Hosts Pirate Invitational At Overton’s Lake Kristi

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina cross country program will host the annual Pirate Invitational Friday afternoon at Overton's Lake Kristi in Grimesland, N.C.

The Pirates will welcome a number of schools to the meet which begins with the women's 6K at 4:00 p.m. The men's 8K will follow at 4:40 p.m.

Men: Saint Augustine, North Carolina Wesleyan, Barton, VCU, Elon, Richmond, Duke, Norfolk State, UNCW, College of Charleston, East Carolina, NC State, Coastal Carolina, Western Carolina, UNC Greensboro, Elizabeth City State, Hampton and Methodist.

Women: VCU, Methodist, Elizabeth City State, Coastal Carolina, NC State, Western Carolina, South Carolina, Richmond, Elon, East Carolina, College of Charleston, UNC Greensboro, Barton, UNCW, Hampton, Norfolk State, North Carolina Wesleyan and Saint Augustine.

East Carolina most recently competed at the Paul Short Run back on Oct. 5. The women finished 22nd out of 41 teams while the men took 34th in a 45-squad race.

Junior Josh Spare was top performer for the Pirates on the men's side, running the fifth-fastest 8K time in school history at 24:16 to finish in 58th place. Senior Dean Abushouk was the next ECU runner across the finish line, recording a time of 24:51 – good for 144th place.

In the women's 6K, senior Nuria Tillo-Prats led the Pirates for the second-straight meet, tallying the sixth-best time in program history at 21:08 and finishing in 86th place. Classmate Mikayla Stoudt stayed 10th on the school's 6K top-10 list with a time of 21:22 that netted her 114th. Sophomore Abby Yourkavitch was just a second behind, ending up in 118th place.

Following the Pirate Invitational, ECU will compete at the American Athletic Conference Championships slated for Nov. 1 in Memphis, Tenn.
