ECU (2-4, 0-0 AAC) is coming off a bye weekend and will be playing for the first time since March 6. The Pirates are still looking for the first road win of the season, holding a 2-2 record in Johnson Stadium and a 0-2 mark in away games. East Carolina's most recent game was a tight 12-9 loss to Jacksonville that saw four Pirates finish with at least four points.
Â
Megan Pallozzi leads the Pirates with 18 goals and three assists for 21 points. She is third in the conference and 29th in the country in goals and is especially deadly from the eight-meter arc, leading the AAC in free position goals per game (1.17) and free position shot percentage (0.778). Ashley Vernon is also among the national leaders, sitting at 11th in the country with 54 saves this season, including 12 in her last game. After missing two games, Megan Tryniski returned to the lineup against Jacksonville and recorded four points, giving her 15 points on five goals and a team-high 10 assists, which ranks her fourth in the AAC in helpers.
Â
Nicole LeGar leads ECU in the draw circle, with 23 draw controls while Payton Barr (17) and France Kimel (13) are both in double-figures. Cece Bartley is in the top-10 of the AAC in caused turnovers per game, averaging 1.20. She is tied with Liz Blumthal, as each have caused six opponent miscues. Blumthal has also been active on ground balls, scooping up 12 to lead the Pirates.
Â
Old Dominion (2-5, 0-0 AAC) will be making its American Athletic Conference debut after joining the league this season. The Monarchs finished their nonconference schedule with three straight losses, falling to George Washington (16-6), Liberty (14-8) and No. 17 Richmond (19-2), all at home. Lilly Siskind leads the team with 12 goals and 17 points while Claire Porter (seven goals, nine assists) and Lindsay Baer (eight goals, seven assists) have also reached double-figures in points. Caroline Shaefer has been the number one option at the draw circle, recording 24 draw controls with Danielle Dundas and Tess Meurling adding 12 each. Defensively, Lauren Carey and Maria Rekus have both caused 12 turnovers, which is tied for second in the AAC. In the goal, three different players have started at least one game. Brianna Blatter leads the team with 36 saves and a .537 save percentage, but all three made an appearance in the Monarchs' most recent game.
Â
It will be the second all-time meeting between ECU and Old Dominion. The first came in 2019, with the Pirates falling 15-8. Nicole LeGar had a field day for ECU, scoring four goals, causing a pair of turnover and grabbing three draw controls. The difference in the game though, came at the eight-meter arc as ECU was outscored 8-0 on free-position goals. The Pirates will also be looking for their first AAC victory. ECU finished 0-5 in the league in 2019 before all conference games were cancelled in 2020.
Â
The teams will meet on both Friday and Sunday. Friday's game will get started at 1 p.m., while Sunday's contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., as well.
