
ECU Returns Home To Face Richmond And Hampton

GREENVILLE, N.C. – After four matches on opponents' home courts, the East Carolina women's tennis team will play in front of its fans this weekend when it welcomes Richmond and Hampton to the River Birch Tennis Center. ECU will face the Spiders Saturday (Feb. 18) at 2 p.m. before taking on Hampton Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Pirates (3-4) split a pair of contests in Blacksburg, Va. last weekend, downing Radford 6-1 before falling to Virginia Tech 4-0. Ines Bachir won her only decision against the Highlanders' Emily Brandow 6-3, 6-3 to improve 4-2 in the spring. Joan Madi also owns a team-best four singles victories after defeating Radford's Rachel Ekanem 7-6, 7-6 and dropping a 6-1, 6-1 decision to the Hokies' Charlotte Cartledge. Martina Muzzolon enters this weekend's action having won four-straight singles bouts at the No. 3 position.

In doubles action, Bachir and Alisha Hussain have teamed up for a 5-2 record, picking up a 6-4 triumph over Abrams and Brandow of Radford. The pair has won five of its last six matches. Muzzolon and Isabella Rivera Ortiz are 3-3 in doubles play, downing the Highlanders' Murphy and Smolder 6-2.

Richmond (2-6) owns wins over Radford and Norfolk State as well as losses to Princeton, Penn, Virginia, Wake Forest, James Madison and Virginia Tech while Hampton (3-1) has defeated Coppin State, Johns Hopkins and Christopher Newport and lost to Loyola (Md.).
