Pirates fall to No. 9 UNC in Chapel Hill, 14-6

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The East Carolina lacrosse team was defeated by No. 9 UNC, 14-6, on the road on Tuesday afternoon. The Tar Heels outscored the Pirates 6-2 in the first quarter and maintained their lead from there.

The Pirates (3-4) again struggled maintaining possession. ECU had 21 turnovers to UNC's 10. The Tar Heels (6-2) dominated draw control 8-1 in the first quarter setting them up to close the first quarter on a 4-0 run. With majority possession UNC took 40 shots and scored on 14 of them in the game.

Still, the Pirates gave a great effort. Jaime Behar made 11 saves. Erin Gulden and Carli Johnston each added a pair of goals. Frances Kimel showed great veteran leadership, providing a spark for the ECU offense in the first half facilitating from behind the goal. She wound up tying her season high with four assists.

Although going scoreless in the second half, the Pirates shut down the Tar Heels offense for most of the final 30 minutes, going seventeen minutes without conceding a goal to the hosts. North Carolina only posted three goals the rest of the way.Â
