Pirates Fall at No. 4 James Madison, 19-3

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The East Carolina lacrosse team fell to No. 4 James Madison, 19-3, on Saturday. Riley Matthiesen scored a pair of goals and Frances Kimel notched a goal and two assists for the Pirates.

The Dukes (6-1, 1-0 AAC) got off to a hot start in the game with a 9-0 lead after just a quarter of play. The hosts went on to lead 14-1 through 30 minutes of play led by Isabella Peterson's five goals and five draw controls and Maddie Epke's two goals and six draw controls in the first half. JMU compiled 25 shots, 19 of which were on goal, in the first half alone to just three for the Pirates (3-5, 0-1 AAC), and dominated on the draw 14-2.

Kimel got the Pirates on the board with their lone goal of the first half with 5:34 to play before halftime. It was Kimel's 15th goal and 29th point of the season.

Matthiesen added the final two goals of the game for ECU in the fourth quarter with Kimel assisting on both, her 15th and 16th helpers of the year. The tallies were Matthiesen's fourth and fifth goals of her young career.

All three goalkeepers got minutes in cage for the Pirates with Brynn Knight getting 37 minutes of action and making seven saves for a save percentage of .438.

For the game, JMU ended up with 42 shots (29 on goal) to ECU's seven (four on goal). The Dukes controlled things in the draw circle with a 20-5 margin and registered eight turnovers to none for the Pirates.
