GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina lacrosse team returns home after a lengthy road swing to host the Temple Owls on Saturday at noon in Johnson Stadium. For fans unable to attend, the game will be available for streaming on ESPN+ with Zach Berly and Dennis Cox on the call.
Last Time Out
The Pirates took a beating at James Madison by a 16-goal margin. Riley Matthiesen led the team with a pair of goals while Frances Kimel posted a goal and assisted on both of Matthiesen's tallies. The Pirates gave all three goalkeepers time in cage with Brynn Knight faring the best with seven saves and nine goals allowed in 37:04 played.
Scouting the Owls
Temple enters the game on an excellent run to start the season with their 6-3 record through nine games. The Owls won their last contest against Vanderbilt, 10-8, led by Belle Mastropietro's four goals. Mastropietro also leads the way for the season with 36 points on 25 goals and 11 assists. Taylor Grollman has gotten the majority of play in goal for the Owls, recording 79 saves and an impressive .523 save percentage.
Series HistoryÂ
The Pirates and Owls have met six times over the years with Temple so far owning a series sweep. The Pirates gave it their best run yet last season with an 11-7 loss. Camryn Pennypacker and Ellie Bromley recorded hat tricks in the effort while Brynn Knight made nine saves. Knight was bested though by Owl keeper Taylor Grollman's impressive 14 stops in the game.
