March 02, 2024 | Lacrosse
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The East Carolina lacrosse team fell to William & Mary on the road on Saturday afternoon, 19-12.
The Pirates (3-3) trailed by just one goal through three quarters, but the Tribe (3-3) used a 7-1 fourth quarter to blow the game open and run away with the victory.
William & Mary was powered by six goals from Paige Gilbert along with tallies by eight other players in the game. The Pirates tried everything, giving three goalkeepers run in cage, but were unable to get over the hump despite tying the game three times after the Tribe jumped out to a 4-1 lead early.
Kayla Wilkes led the Pirates with a hat trick while Riley Matthiesen added a pair of goals in the effort. Wilkes also contributed five draw controls in the game as the Pirates fared better in that category, only losing the draw 19-15 after a 22-5 shellacking on Wednesday. Though, Kate Draddy put up 10 draw controls of her own to pace William & Mary.
The Pirates did see five players record multiple points, led by Erin Gulden's four points on a goal and three assists, but were ultimately unable to overcome a hot day from a much improved William & Mary side in the loss.
