Pirates Fall Short at Vanderbilt, 14-13
April 13, 2024 | Lacrosse
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The East Carolina lacrosse team lost to Vanderbilt, 14-13, on Saturday afternoon. Regina Di Chiara and Emily Stratton scored hat tricks in the loss.
Â
As has become a familiar tale, the Pirates (3-11, 0-5 AAC) got down big and roared back before coming up short in the game. Vanderbilt (8-6, 2-2 AAC) got up 8-1 then 9-2 in the game, leading wire to wire and were led by five impressive goals by Brooke Baker.
Â
The nail in the coffin was a turnover with 90 seconds left, trailing by one after winning a draw control in the fourth quarter. A misplaced passed went by two ECU players and out of play, allowing the Commodores to run out the clock on the game. The Pirates fared better in the draw circle on Saturday but still trailed 18-13 at the end of the day.
Â
Jaime Behar got the start in cage and allowed five goals while making just one save before Brynn Knight took over and made six stops on 14 shots on frame. For Vanderbilt, both keepers got minutes, but Paige Gunning got the win with a three-save performance in just over 42 minutes played.
Â
In the big picture, the loss was the 10th in a row for the Pirates and the fourth by two-or-fewer goals while the win for Vanderbilt keeps the Commodores alive in the AAC Tournament race.
