GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina soccer team is set to host Western Carolina on Sunday afternoon for a 1 p.m. contest. The Pirates will face perhaps their toughest challenge of the year but will do it with projected stunning weather in the venerable Johnson Stadium.
The game will also be the annual celebration of PGSA Day as the Pirates celebrate local youth soccer.

Last Time Out
The Pirates took a beating to UNCW on Sunday. Kylie Alvarez scored the winner for her first career goal before Sydney Schnell and Emma Sheehan both scored highlight-reel worthy goals in the second half to blow the game open for the 3-0 result. Schnell also recorded the assist on Sheehan's tally while Lindsey Aiken served up the cross for Alvarez' goal. Maeve English made three saves in goal to earn the Pirates' fourth shutout of the season.
Scouting Western Carolina
The reigning SoCon Champions, the Catamounts enter the game with a 3-2-1 record after back-to-back dominant wins by scores of 3-0 and 4-0 over Georgia State and Gardner-Webb. They're led on the year by Kirsten Hahn and Milla Syska with four goals apiece to pace five players with multiple goals on the young season. The Catamounts offense has been electric at times with three games of three-or-more goals, including a six-goal outburst against UNC Asheville, and an impressive 20.2 shot attempts per game. Leanne Trudel has gotten the majority of the work in goal with 19 saves and a .731 save percentage.
Series History
The Pirates have controlled the series history with the Catamounts to the tune of a 7-1-1 all-time record, including a 5-0-0 mark at home. The lone draw came a season ago as the Pirates went on the road for a 1-1 result. Emma Sheehan scored the ECU goal in the first half before Western got on the board in the second. The Pirates actually had a chance to extended the lead in the first half but were just unable to when the Catamounts made a save on an Abby Sowa penalty kick.
Weekly Recognition
Kylie Alvarez was tabbed American Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Pirates to two clean sheets and scoring her first career goal last week (check out the highlight below!). The honor was the first weekly recognition of her career.
