Pirates Struggle in 17-9 Loss to UC Davis

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The East Carolina lacrosse team lost a neutral site contest with UC Davis, 17-9, on Wednesday afternoon. Kayla Wilkes scored three goals to lead the Pirates in the loss.
The Pirates (1-4) dropped into an 8-1 hole early in the game and never quite recovered. Natalie Markman and Grace Gebhardt's four goals apiece paced four Aggies (2-5) with hat tricks in the game as two ECU keepers struggled to keep the ball out of the net, making just four saves on 21 shots on goal.
On the other side, the Pirates actually posted more shots on goal than the Aggies, but Ally Richardson-Pepper's 13 saves slammed the door on any hopes of a comeback in the game. UC Davis also controlled the draw circle with a 19-9 advantaged in draw controls.
ECU trailed by as many as 11 goals in the game, their largest deficit of the season. That deficit came on the heels of a 6-0 run by UC Davis after the Pirates briefly drew within four goals in the second quarter.

After five games on the road the Pirates finally return home to welcome Quinnipiac to Johnson Stadium at noon on Sunday.
